Officially Recognized Language: South-eastern Nigeria
Igbo belongs to the Kwa family and is spoken by over 17 million people. It has a number of dialects which are inherently intelligible. A standard literary form is developing from two dialects, Owerri and Umuahia. It is also an important trade language and an official language in the south-east.
